Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how SmallTalk: Chat Nearby (“SmallTalk”, “the App”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles information when you use the App.

Will this policy ever change?

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as we improve the App. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.

What information do we collect?

We do not collect personal information.

We do not:

  • require user accounts or sign-in
  • collect messages or communication content
  • collect analytics, telemetry, or advertising data

All app data is stored locally on your device.

Bluetooth Permissions

SmallTalk uses Bluetooth to discover nearby devices and enable peer-to-peer messaging. Messages are transferred directly between devices and are not sent to our servers. Bluetooth permission is required for the App to function.

Location Permissions

SmallTalk uses location access for map-related features and to aid iOS Bluetooth discovery. We do not track, store, or share your precise location with us or other users. When you are displayed on another user’s map, your location is randomly generated and not your exact location. If you deny location access, map-related features may be limited or unavailable.

How are permissions used?

Bluetooth and location permissions are used solely to enable nearby device discovery, messaging, and map features within the App. We do not sell, rent, or share information for advertising or marketing.

Third-party Services

SmallTalk uses third-party services such as OpenFreeMaps and MapLibre for map-related features. When map tiles are loaded, your device may connect directly to those services. These requests may include standard technical information (such as IP address) required to deliver content. We do not control these services, and your use of them is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.

Data Retention

We do not store your personal data on our servers. Data stored locally on your device remains there until you delete it or uninstall the App.

Children’s Privacy

You must be at least 13 years old to use the App.

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) requires that online service providers obtain parental consent before they knowingly collect personally identifiable information online from children who are under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age; if you are under 13 years of age, please do not attempt to download or use SmallTalk or send us any personal information. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13 years of age, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe that someone under 13 years of age may have provided us personal information, please contact us at getsmalltalkapp@gmail.com.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect data stored within the App. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
